two bikes, three days, 500 miles
Victor and Angel set out from Brooklyn on a roughly 500-mile round trip to Harper’s Ferry, WV, cutting through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., to test an early version of the Motopack on a multi-day ride. The route carried them from long urban stretches into twisty mountain roads and through rolling countryside. Along the way they spotted abandoned buildings from the 1800’s, small roadside towns locked in time, and breathtaking valleys covered in mist.
The town itself was quaint and picturesque, boasting a lengthy and important history tied to the American Civil War and the Underground Railroad. Exploration continued into the night with Angel and Victor trekking across an old railroad bridge which connects the gorge between the town and the nearby mountain and marks the midway point of the Appalachian Trail.
On the ride home a sudden, heavy rainstorm proved the real test, yet the Motopack came through unscathed, keeping all their gear dry, secure, and ready for the final leg of the journey. Though the trip was short, the experience was unforgettable.
